Your first visit to Shambala, made simple.

From arrival to your treatment, we explain each step so you know what to expect and can simply relax.

Most of what makes a first spa visit awkward is not the treatment. It is the twenty minutes before it, spent quietly working out where to put your things, whether you are early, and what you are supposed to do with the robe. So here is the whole sequence, in order.

Before you arrive

Send a message with three things: the treatment, the length, and a therapist if you have a preference. Our receptionists reply with a time and confirm it. Nothing is held automatically — the site does not give away a slot that a person has not actually agreed to, which is why a confirmation comes back from a human rather than instantly from a form.

A few minutes early is the right amount of early: long enough to change and drink tea, not so long that you are sitting in a lobby wondering whether to take your shoes off. The spa is open daily from 11:00 AM until 2:00 AM.

Finding the door

Shambala is inside the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Al Barsha 1, a short way off Sheikh Zayed Road. Come in through the hotel; the spa entrance is signed, and the lit gold mandala at the door is difficult to walk past. Reception will take your name and show you where to change.

The tea is not a formality

You are given a robe and offered tea by the hearth while your room is set. It is worth actually sitting down for it. The point of the ten minutes is that your heart rate is lower when you get on the table than it was in the car, and a treatment that starts from a settled body is a different treatment from one that starts from traffic.

During

You stay covered by a towel throughout, and only the area being worked on is uncovered. You can ask for more or less pressure at any point and it changes immediately.

Afterwards

Get up slowly; blood pressure takes a moment to catch up. Take water or coffee, and give yourself a few minutes.

Worth knowing.

How early should I arrive?

A few minutes. Enough to change and drink the tea, not so long that you are waiting. Your session runs for the time you booked either way.

What do I wear?

You are given a robe when you arrive. During the treatment you stay covered by a towel, and only the area being worked on is uncovered.

Do I have to talk during the massage?

No. The only conversation that matters is the one at the start about pressure and comfort. After that, silence is fine and so is falling asleep.

Where exactly is Shambala?

Inside the Cosmopolitan Hotel, Al Barsha 1, just off Sheikh Zayed Road. Come in through the hotel — the lit gold mandala marks the spa entrance.

Book a treatment

Reading about it is not the same as an hour on the table.
